Newbold III v. A.E.I.
58 - 0
It was a bitterly cold day as A.E.I. took on the wrath of NewbolD.

It was blatently obvious from the very beginning that A.E.I. were in for a tough fight. The first try was scored within minutes of the kick-off.

Despite Newbold's efforts to dominate this game A.E.I. refused to go down without a fight, making some of the most spectacular tackles seen this season.

Richard Pinks once again impressed the spectators by skillfully dodging the opponents, and chipping the ball through masterfully.

Pete Pritchard could be heard for miles away shouting words of encouragement to his teammates.

A.E.I. Man of the Match Stewart Brown was able to prove his worth by making death defying tackles which enabled him to bring down many opposingforwards.

The match ended with a heart-breaking scoreline of 58 - 0. Despite their loss A.E.I. walked from the pitch with heads held high.

Next week A.E.I. will take on a brand new challenge against Old Leams, hoping to make a well expected come back.

A.E.I. v.Old Wheatleyans
19 - 20
It was bitterly cold on Saturday as the A.E.I. supporters saw their team narrowly lose in a well-fought game.

A.E.I. were on top for the most of the first half and started off tremendously with a try for the mercurial Pete Pritchard. The ball landed in the second's row hands and with bullish strength and determination he took on all comers before forcing the ball down in the corner. For A.E.I.'s second Steve Brown slithered through the defence like the Asp that taunted the Egyptians 4000 years ago.

Despite previous failure Gareth Bott stood up to be counted and took the kick that soared through the posts like a dove of peace.

A.E.I.'s third try was a masterclass finishing; a soaring run took Stuart Brown past the try line when he was cynically tripped under the post amidst a barrage of opposing tackles.

The referee had no choice but to award a penalty try.

Once again the might of Gareth Bott stepped up undeterred by the immense screams of the capacity crowd and launched the ball like a rocket through the posts.

Despite all heroic efforts A.E.I. were to lose by a single point.

A.E.I. v. Aylestone Athletic
22 - 5
A.E.I. were hosts to another strong side at the weekend as they took on Aylestone Athletic at the Hillmorten Road ground on Saturday.

After much deliberation on positions, A.E.I. took to the field with a reasonably strong side.
From the kickoff A.E.I. pilled on the pressure with the forwards creating huge gaps in the A.A. defensive line. Some lovely rucked ball was shipped out to Richard Pinks early on, who lunged for the corner after making a mockery of the A.A. tackling. Gareth Bott failed to convert.

Gareth Bott came close barely five minutes later when he took on a run, chipped and chased only for the ball to bounce awkwardly and a chance squandered. Paul Turner and Neil Stone, on loan from the Tailenders, made some earth-shattering runs taking out a number of players.

Lee Clark, playing his first game at hooker, was taken off injured midway through the first half due to a neck injury which should see him miss next weeks game. Steve Oxberry game on as an A.E.I. substitute, and proceedings continued.

Richard Pinks was involved yet again, but this time in a defensive role showing how its meant to be done by tackling almost anything that came at him.

A. A. took full advantage as A.E.I. took their foot off the gas by scoring a well worked try through Mark Elliot. The conversion was missed.

Some good lineout play from Pete Pritchard near the A.E.I. line meant Nathan Yeung could go on a fantastic run. Gareth Bott followed up Yeung's run with good support but was taken out giving A.E.I. a good platform from which to attack, but it was to be the end of the half with the score standing at 5-5 which could go either way.

As the second half began, Richard Pinks and Gareth Bott teamed up to score a fantastic try which saw both players showing good potential.

Another Tailender was to grab the next A.E.I. try as Paul Henderson showed A.A. how it should be done. Gareth Bott missed the conversion.

Steve Brown also got involved in preceedings by tkaing the ball on a number of times during the second half only to be taken out on every occasion.

A nice backs move by A.E.I. should have ended in a try in the corner, but a blatantly forward pass was thrown in the centre of the field, and Derek Robinson was denied what would have been an easy try.

Paul Hendo crossed the line again as the game drew to a close. Gareth Bott converted making the final score A.E.I. 22 A.A. 5.

A.E.I. will hope to carry their winning ways on to the game next week verses Old Wheatleyans.

Just to prove that my English is up to standard, and beyond compare, to any Barons of the red variety I would like to state that waNNed is a word, and it happens to fit.

Lets see if it disappears now right!

The statement STICKS.

A.E.I. v. Newbold III
17 - 22
The crowd at the Hillmorton Road ground was treated to an interesting game. Early exchanges led to Newbold nearly scoring in the corner. They paid for this mishap a few minutes later when, after some sustained pressure, Adrian Pinks charged over near the sticks for an A.E.I. try. Gareth Bott missed the conversion.

Newbold stormed back into the game with three successive scores. A.E.I. lost out on a number of players in the first half, including Gary Carter, who will be out for a month and Paul Downs.

A.E.I. made a game of it in the second half as Adrian Pinks and Gareth Bott crossed the line and Bott converted his own try.

In a game that was generally evenly matched, Newbold were triumphant. A.E.I. will hope to record a victory in next week's clash with Atherstone.

May I just say that if you read the Advertiser report and it does not make any sense it is because they tend to cut out words and sometimes sentences and do not read back through it. To read what a report should say, please look on here. My command of the English language is not that bad.

Also, if any Red Barons happen to be reading, stick it. By the way, the word should have been 'wanned' not 'dimmed'.

Due to some problems (I cannot get hold of Tony!) you can look at new pictures through this link:

This link is just New Pictures.

They may not be any good, and they may load slowly but they are pictures...better ones from Old Warks and Newbold III will be posted in the next two days.

Coventry Saracens II v. A.E.I.
42 - 0
Due to rescheduling Coventry Saracens II took on A.E.I. at the Willenhall ground the Saturday before last.

During the first half A.E.I. showed some excellent talent for the future in Andy Clark, the newborn inside-centre. Saracens were on top for most of the game, scoring six converted tries.

A.E.I. were bolstered by Ian Cockerill, who made a number of spectacular tackles, as did newcomer Gary Carter, who not only tackled but also made some defence splitting runs.

It was a day A.E.I. will take much from but one they will wish to forget. Next week A.E.I. take on Newbold III at the Hillmorten road ground.

A.E.I. v. OLD WARWICKIANS II - (We did it again lads!)
38 - 7
A.E.I. travelled to Old Warwickian's ground on Saturday on the back of a triumphant win the week before against Long Buckby III.

A.E.I. fielded a team differing greatly from the week before. The game started off tremendously for A.E.I. as ties seemed to be coming so naturally in the first half.

Man of the Match Gareth Bott scored two tries within ten minutes of the opening converting one of them.

Paul Eaton made a superb single effort jinking through Warwickian's defense to set himself up for a superb try.

Gareth Bott brought his tally up to five before the end of the first half showing a class that was simply beyond his years.

Paul Eaton was involved yet again with the help from all the backs. The ball glided down the back line exposing the gaps in the Old Warwickian defence and Eaton charged in to grab one more try.

The Old Warwickian pack forced in a try before the half ended, but it was off to be a one-off consolation.

During the second half Nathan Yeung made an impressive run for the try line, skillfully dodging a couple of opponents but was forcefully taken out yards away from scoring a try by no.13 of old Warwickian.

Gareth Bott once again managed to impress everyone by scoring and converting the last try of the match.

Twenty minutes before the end of the game, the referee was replaced by Terry Bott, due to an unfortunate injury. Mr. Bott smoothly refereed the rest of the match witnessing A.E.I.'s glamorous win first hand.

A.E.I. were ecstatic to claim yet another victory in a season which is so emphatically becoming theirs. They hope to continue the winning streak next week against Earlsdon III at the Hillmorton Road ground.

MATCH REPORT (THAT WAS QUICK!) A.E.I. v. Long Buckby III

31 - 15

The Hillmorten Rd. ground saw spells of good flowing rugby on Saturday as AEI were hosts to the well acclaimed Long Buckby side.

It all started so wrong for AEI as a penalty was given early on and Long Buckby's S. Diamond stepped up to claim the three points. It seemed AEI were going to crash to a second successive defeat in as many weeks.

Full-back Richard Pinks and winger Lee Clark started some uplifting moves, and as the game progressed AEI appeared to be taking some charge of the game.

From nowhere Adrian Pinks made a break through the centre brushing off three or four tackles and was bound for the tryline. The conversion was sorely missed.

Moments later some good back movements on the right from Nick Hayward and co. left an opening for a jubilant Derek Robinson to lunge for the line. He failed however to convert.

No. 8 Mark Mcdonagh made some brilliant runs through the centre and set up a try for Nathan Yeung who weaved his way through the Long Buckby defence to cross between the posts. Derek Robinson converted from dead-centre infront of the sticks.

Mark Mcdonagh continued to feature in the game as he crossed the line with a spot of excellence. Derek Robinson smiled as he converted.

Steven Oxberry began to feature with some impressive play, securing the ball on a number of occasions.

As the first half came to a conclusion AEI were impressively on top and flying.

The second half saw a slight turn-around as Long Buckby tried so desperately to show that they were not a force to be reckoned with. It became obvious from the kick-off that the visitors were applying pressure on the AEI backline by kicking into gaps and chasing. Long Buckby's backs were unlucky on a number of occasions not to break away, but AEI held firm.

AEI sensed an overlap on the right and Derek Robinson passed to a sprinting Gareth Raisbeck who set Richard Pinks up for a perfect try opportunity. Pinks' punt bounced astray. Vintage AEI.

Long Buckby's S. Diamond yet again was the one to give hope to his disillusioned side by scoring a good solo try, but then failed to convert.

Nathan Yeung featured yet again in the proceedings as he yet again brought AEI back into the fore by scoring another brilliant try. Derek Robinson could not believe his luck as he pocketed another TWO points.

AEI's wippet of the week Ian Cockerill was seen on a number of occasions trying to break away through the Long Buckby defence but to no avail. The referee didn't seem to like it!
As the game concluded, Long Buckby claimed the last word. Matt Haynes peeled from the back of a rolling maul and dived over in the corner.

AEI's injured captain, who has been on the sidelines for over a month now, exclaimed that the game was truly a "Damn good exhibition!".

AEI will look forward to make it two wins in as many games against Old Warwickians next week. Ha'way the lads!

Gareth Raisbeck (with thanks to Sianne for the notes as Anastasia could not see - apparently no contact lenses?)

EARLSDON III v. A.E.I. R.F.C. MATCH REPORT

Earlsdon III took on the might of A.E.I. at their ground on Coventry on Saturday and came out with an emphatic win. A.E.I. were overrun and the game proved to be one of the toughest matches played so far this season.
From the off set Earlsdon set out to destroy any hope of A.E.I. clinching a win by scoring three tries in the opening 15 minutes. Earlsdon concentrated their efforts down the left side pounding pressure on the depleted A.E.I. backs.

A.E.I. could do nothing but defend in the first half and yet some glimmers of hope for the future shone through. Winger Lee Clark and Gareth Raisbeck put in some interesting tackles which helped slow things down for Earlsdon.

The second half proved a much closer affair with both teams coming close. Some good 'kick and chase' from Rich Pinks nearly paid off when a gap appeared in the Earlsdon back line. Jeff Broom made some thunderous tackles on the right and Gareth Raisbeck was able to force a number from the pitch on the left.
Earlsdon were aided by a number of students from the local university which will not be available for the return fixture in three weeks and A.E.I. will hope to prove better opponents next week away at Long Buckby.

A.E.I. R.F.C. v. COSBY MATCH REPORT

41 - 10
A.E.I. ran out emphatic winners on Saturday at the Hillmorton Rd ground where they played hosts to Cosby.
From the outset A.E.I. were determined to make up for past week's mistakes and mis-haps. The first try of the day was taken by Nick Hayward a couple of minutes into the game, and was converted by Gareth Bott.
Gareth took charge in the defensive department by blocking the route of Cosby's Ian Macka who was so shaken that he lost the ball, giving advantage to the home side.

Aidan Pinks stormed over the line for his second try in two games and A.E.I. were flying.
More brilliant moves were to come from the A.E.I.'s backs as Nathan Yeung made a resilient run for the line but was emphatically stopped by three of Cosby's defense. A scrum on the Cosby's try line gave captain Tim Sargeant the perfect opportunity for a try as he peeled to dive over in slow-mo.

Cosby's 'Nursy' could find no way through A.E.I.'s Gareth Bott and offloaded to Ian Macka for a try that was to signal a Cosby come back. Better defensive tackling was seen from Nathan Yeung who grounded his opposite number with apparent relative ease. Richard Pinks was yet again showing his worth by sprinting through the Cosby defensive line and going it all on his own (awww!). A superb individual try followed.

The second half was a much closer affair with Cosby letting rip what they had previously withheld.
Gareth Bott of A.E.I. was the first to score after the break but he failed to convert. Richard Pinks claimed another for the home side before Cosby's Pete Bradshaw had a try disallowed under peculiar circumstances. He was eventually deemed to have been out of the field of play.

A.E.I.'s Ian Cockrell, returning from injury, intercepted a pass and made a 70-yard scoring burst, which had to be worth mentioning.
After a slight scuffle between players, Richard Pinks stormed up the pitch only to "lose his footing" and was denied a perfectly easy scoring opportunity.
Derek McCulloch had the last laugh for the visitors when he tore the A.E.I. defense apart as he made a lunge for the line. Peter Bradshaw converted. The game ended with a score line of 42-10 to the home side. A.E.I's ecstatic captain Tim Sargeant told us "I am very proud of the lads and we want to see more of the same next week". Cosby's captain Roger Cook was said to be disappointed by the performance. The saga continues...

KETTERING III v. A.E.I. R.F.C. MATCH REPORT
A.E.I. arrived at Kettering R.F.C. on Saturday disillusioned and devastated. Due to a number of last minute drop-outs A.E.I. arrived with 11 men and without of all things a hooker.
Kettering, who had a number of players on offer for selection that day, lent a number to the A.E.I. who were very grateful.

The game began with a mismatch of players and positions. It was obvious from the beginning that this was going to be a game played by the forwards and won by the backs. Kettering struck first blood by scoring a number of breakaway tries down the left sideline. A.E.I. could do nothing about the onslaught.

It must be said that although there were huge gaps on the A.E.I. back line due to absences, Kettering applied the majority of the pressure on the forwards. Their pressure was obviously paying off.

A quarter way though the game prop Dave Pritchard withdrew from the field, and A.E.I. were even more stretched.
As the half time whistle approached Richard Pinks side-stepped his way to the line in a bit of experienced individualistic flair.

The second half brought much promise as the joint Men of the Match A. Pinks and Pete Pritchard brought a new formed soul to the team. A forward move headed by A. Pinks helped to create an opening for a superb try. A rolling maul caused an opening through which Pinks was able to dart through and charge over the line for a try.

More tries were to follow including a beautiful bit of work from the boot of Kettering's Dave Goodson. Sensing he was to be tackled imminently, Dave chipped the flat line defence, caught the ball on the bounce and leaped for the line. Simply superb.

A.E.I.'s captain Tim Sargeant said "All the players played to the best of their ability under the circumstances. Much thanks to Kettering for lending us players and making the day enjoyable for all".
A.E.I. will hope to boast a bigger squad next week when they play Cosby.

After today's margin of 39-12 (to the opposition) shall we all be there on Wednesday at 7? :o)

By the way the word Hooker has three meanings:

1. One that hooks
2. DRINK ("a hooker of whiskey")
3. PROSTITUTE

Somebody explain as I don't believe I did any of these three on Satuday? Ta, J
