A.E.I vs Trinity Guild II

AEI - 19 – Trinity Guild - 14.

Jamie Barlow knocked the ball on from the kickoff putting AEI under pressure in the corner to start with and it looked like another bad start from AEI was on the books but they were able to fight their way up the field eventually earning a penalty on the twenty two. From here scrum half Jay Jay Jenkins was the first to score, taking a quick tap breaking though a disorganised Guild pack to go under the posts. Tim Sargent came close next with a push over effort from the forward pack however this was denied by the ref who decided he was held up. The next chance was a slick pass from Paul Eton, behind his back, out to wing Lee Clark which sent him over the line but this was also disallowed as a forward pass. AEI starting the play from the half way line out to the wing with Full back Richard Pinks included in the line, Lee Clark showed good strength to pop the ball back inside to put Markus Clarke over in what may be the best try of the season. Trinity got themselves back into the game when, AEI down to 14 players, they pushed over to bring the half time score to 12 – 7.

After the break AEI were again the 1st to score when Erwann Mauxion went over with an old fashion fly half break. Trinity never died and fought on to eventually exploit an overlap on the wing to slide over. With wholesale subs from both teams the rest of the game belonged to Trinity who retain procession well however were unable to beat the defence of AEI, Full time result AEI 19 to 14, Man of the match Jamie Barlow.

Captain Picard said “It was a good game to win, we had lost two on the trot and that is not a feeling we like a lot. The scrum reminder me of the rock of Gibraltar, where I served, and the backs were clinical in their execution With the team fit and the bench packed with class players returning from injury our mood was one of confidence. This reflected was in our game with a return to the free flowing rugby of early season.”
